My earlier work involved the use of photography as a way to understand form and it eventually led to my ongoing exploration of the grid, this time mostly through drawings and paintings—a humanistic approach that feels especially enriching. In contrast to the pure mental processes implied by the nature of a grid, I find that each line drawn leads me into a journey of ever-evolving feelings which then become the basis for further
discoveries and explorations.

Although I admire the artwork of many artists who systematically explore form, I was particularly influenced by Sol LeWitt’s early work with grids. Differently from his work though, I seek to experience the qualities that our culture attributes to various forms and to stretch their limits into new visual areas.

My photography was much influenced by Man Ray with his use of unexpected juxtapositions into the surreal and his ability to do so with comparatively straightforward subjects. Man Ray was also the subject of my MFA thesis.
