After expressing at a NYC job interview that I would love to start a picture magazine I was introduced to Steve Lawrence; within two weeks Steve and I partnered to revive The Picture Newspaper, a tabloid-sized publication that printed full-page images, and no text at all. Although we were able to publish only three issues, the Picture Newspaper became well-known in the design world and served as a model for later image-rich publications.
Some of the contributors included: Bill Cunningham, Richard Avedon, Man Ray, Annie Leibovitz, Richard Bernstein, Edward Steichen, Toscani, Ralph Gibson, Leni Riefenstahl, Antonio Lopez, Milton H. Greene, Peter Hujar, Richard L. Schaefer, Christian Piper, Chris Callis, Victor Hugo, Richard Misrach.
XTRA (The Picture Newspaper) was a special eight page issue that we put together for the Jul/Aug issue of WET Magazine in 1978.
